Since 2023, the Pakistan International Disputes Weekend has grown into a regional platform for dispute-resolution leadership, professional exchange, and cross-border collaboration. It convenes judges, policymakers, ADR institutions, practitioners, business leaders, and industry stakeholders.
The Chair and PIDW Board guide that mission, connecting the full spectrum of dispute resolution with the practical needs of construction, infrastructure, energy, investment, and other key sectors.
Founding Chair
Barrister Mian Sheraz Javaid
Chair, Pakistan International Disputes Weekend (PIDW)
Mian Sheraz Javaid is the founder and Chair of the Pakistan International Disputes Weekend (PIDW). The concept for PIDW was born from his vision in 2022 after he returned to Pakistan and identified a critical need for a regional platform dedicated to dispute resolution. He notes that Pakistan is a growing recipient of foreign direct investment, most prominently through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and his work with PIDW is instrumental in positioning the region to handle these complex, cross-border disputes.
A civil engineer and English barrister with more than 22 years of dispute resolution experience, he practises across multiple jurisdictions and accepts appointments as an arbitrator, mediator, adjudicator, and dispute board member. His work spans construction, infrastructure, energy, power, oil and gas, and mining disputes, bringing practical industry experience to PIDW's institutional direction and programme development.
Recognizing a gap in the region's legal infrastructure, his founding vision for PIDW was centered on addressing several key areas:
- The absence of a platform for knowledge sharing and continuous professional development in the field.
- A lack of opportunities for meaningful networking among dispute resolution professionals.
- The need for a more inclusive forum that embraces the full spectrum of dispute resolution—including litigation, mediation, and adjudication—beyond just arbitration.
- Creating a bridge to facilitate stronger international-local business connectivity for law firms, ADR Centres, and practitioners.
